I decided to apply for dual US/Italian Citizenship because my father was born in Italy. A process was started for myself and my adult children and grandchildren – 12 of us all together! Trying to talk with someone at the consulate was challenging. In doing some online research it became apparent that there had been a surge in applications and that the consulate was no longer providing assistance. Firms offering help with the process also appeared in my search and after looking through a number of them I decided to check out ICA, with offices both in the U.S. and in Rovigo, Italy. Marco was very helpful right off the bat and provided useful info. It became clear that the entire process would be both technical and time-consuming. After checking out reviews of others who had used ICA services, I signed up and began gathering preliminary data.
Eventually Anna A. was assigned to our case and she is a star. She helped tirelessly with information that needed to be gathered and certified from Italy, Argentina and the U.S. Preparing an application for Italian citizenship by descent is a rather complex process but Anna made it easier by setting forth and emailing each set of “next steps” for us to follow, finding translators as needed, and pursuing the Apostilles (a form of internationally-recognized notarization) required. Due to the complexity of our case, and to an extent delays due to unrelated travels on our part, the whole process took four years. I would say the process was intricate, but not particularly difficult. It took the Italian Consulate a while, but in the end, dual citizenship was approved by the Italian government for the entire family.
Anna further helped with passports, which must be applied for separately. I had the pleasure of using mine on two trips to Italy this year which included trips to other EU countries made easier by use of my Italian passport. We have also purchased property in Italy, again made easier through citizenship.
At every stage when we needed assistance, ICA and Anna helped with complete competence and clear instructions. I speak Italian somewhat fluently but Anna’s fluency in English is superior, especially in technical matters. It felt like working with a terrific colleague, someone who cares and is competent and communicative at all times. I would HIGHLY recommend ICA and its terrific staff. We will absolutely be using them again in applying for dual citizenship for my wife and my son-in-law, who are currently studying for the language exam, which is required of those who are not in the direct bloodline and thus can apply for Italian citizenship by marriage instead. I would not even consider using anyone else. ICA’ fees are reasonable and absolutely earned. They do a lot of work!
