REACQUISITION OF ITALIAN CITIZENSHIP

The reacquisition of Italian citizenship is the possibility for individuals who were born in Italy and renounced or lost their Italian citizenship when they naturalized before August 16, 1992, to regain their Italian citizenship by establishing their residency in Italy.

If you would like to pursue this pathway toward acquiring Italian citizenship we will provide you with the following:

  • unlimited consultation
  • retrieving the necessary documents which must be presented to the Italian municipality together with the declaration stating your intention to reacquire Italian citizenship
  • establishing residency in an Italian municipality (“comune”)
  • renting an apartment
  • applying for a residency permit, if necessary
  • applying for an Italian passport and establishing residency abroad again (if needed)

Please note, that if you were born in Italy and lost citizenship according to provisions of Law No. 555 of 1912, you can reacquire it by making a declaration between July 1, 2025 and December 31, 2027, without a requirement to reside in Italy during the reacquisition process.
