Raffaella is a history researcher, and she has been an invaluable part of ICA since its very foundation. Raffaella is specialized in Italian immigration history and Italian genealogical research, and she is a highly experienced vital records procurement specialist. At ICA, Raffaella takes care of carrying out genealogical research to locate ICA’s clients’ ancestors’ vital records in Italy. She liaises with the Italian registry offices (Uffici di Stato Civile) in order to retrieve the records from the Italian municipalities. Once the records have been located, she requests certified copies which are needed for ICA’s clients’ dual citizenship application process.
If birth and marriage records do not exist or were destroyed, Raffaella carries out research to retrieve the records held by the churches. Her duties also entail locating additional records to support an applicant’s claim to Italian citizenship; these include Italian military records, for instance, which contain precious genealogical information. These records are generally held by the military archive of each military district, and by the “Procura della Repubblica” (a court at a provincial level). Finally, if records reveal conflicting information, Raffaella also takes care of requesting a specific record which is known as “Certificato di Esatte Generalità”, which states that the individual named on the records is one and the same. This is generally helpful when Italian consulates or municipalities do not have sufficient proof to verify the identity of an applicant’s ancestor. Some municipalities might also issue another document which is called “positivo – negativo”, which certifies that the ancestor in question was the only individual born with that specific name and on that specific day.
Raffaella is also the head of the Italian vital records procurement department and she is known for her outstanding knowledge about Italian vital records and her dedication and commitment towards ICA’s clients.
Raffaella speaks Italian, English and French.
